UC Davis Cycling Club Finishes Strong at Nationals
Second place for defending national collegiate cycling champion
Lawrence, Kansas (May 13, 2007)--The Cal-Aggie cycling team from the
University of California, Davis, completed defense of its 2006 National
Collegiate Cycling Championship by taking second place in the overall
Division I Team Competition, held May 11-13 in Lawrence, Kansas.
Stanford University Cycling--one of 10 teams UC Davis defeated at this season's Western Collegiate Cycling Conference Championships--won the overall team title, which counts all individual scores for both men and women in the team time trial (TTT), road race, and criterium events.
UC Davis has a long tradition as a collegiate cycling powerhouse; the school won Division I Team Omnium titles in 1996, 2001, and 2006, as well as individual road race titles in 2004 and TTT victories in 2001 and 2006. And while the Aggies come home with only silver medals this year, coach Judd Van Sickle was pleased with the results. "We rode well, for the most part‹it was a solid weekend all around."
Third-year UC Davis student Tyler Dibble finished eighth in Saturday's 84-mile road race and second in Sunday's 65-minute criterium en route to a silver medal in the men's individual omnium, a points competition which combines the accumulated individual results from the road race and criterium. Amanda Seigle, Marisa McAdler, Jamima Iley and Amy Encalada finished the 20-kilometer race against the clock in 27 minutes 29 seconds, only 8.6 seconds behind the winning women's squad from Fort Lewis State College and good enough for a silver medal.
The Cal-Aggie men's TTT squad of Tyler Dibble, Shawn Rosenthal, Stephen Dey,
and Zack Kimsey completed the course in 23:41 for an average speed of 30.8
mph. Despite posting their fastest average TTT speed this year, their
efforts yielded only fourth place.
The UC Davis Cal-Aggie Cycling Club is part of the Sport Club program at the
Department of Campus Recreation at UC Davis. The Sport Club program promotes
student participation in a range of athletic activities, provides
opportunity for intercollegiate competition at various levels of play, and
fosters the development of student leadership. All clubs within the Sport
Club program are registered student organizations, and every club is formed,
developed, and governed by its student membership in conjunction with the
Sport Club staff.
Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs
that provides fitness, wellness, and recreation programs to the campus
community through the operation and administration of the following: The

conference facility), Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs, Equestrian Center,
