Craft Camps

Grades 3-7, weekly sessions (Ceramics is 2 weeks)

Children will have fun learning while they create exciting arts and crafts projects. Depending on their chosen camp, children will create a variety of unique items such as personal adornments, useful items for their room, or wacky works of art. Afternoons are filled with fun activities that could include swimming at the Rec Pool, tours around campus, games, activities and more.
Each Friday from 12 to 12:20 pm, family members are encouraged to attend an outdoor art show featuring the students’ work.

Ceramics
Students will create bowls, whimsical creatures, and other functional or artistic items in this tactile class. A variety of clay working techniques will be introduced, including hand building, molding, sculpture, and limited wheel throwing. Ceramics sessions are two weeks long.

Craft Sampler
Not sure which camp to pick? Try Craft Sampler on for size. We’ll explore a variety of crafts including papermaking, screen printing, Ukrainian egg dying and more.

Drawing & painting
Students will learn several fine art processes while exploring different drawing and painting techniques. Students will use pencils, markers, inks and paints to create works of art incorporating animals, landscapes, still life and fantasy.

Jewelry & Accessories
Students will create a variety of adornments of their own design, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more. A variety of techniques will be taught, including beading, wire jewelry, and working with polymer clay.

Sculpture
Students will create everything from wacky creatures to three-dimensional functional objects in this fun filled class. A variety of sculpting processes will be explored, including paper mache, polymer clay, and plaster. Projects may include figurines, pillows, garden art, picture frames, or other 3-dimensional creations.

Sewing
In the class for grades 3-5, students will complete several smaller projects chosen by the instructor, including tote bags, pillows, and other useful items. In the class for grades 5-7, students will use a pattern chosen by the instructor to complete a simple pair of shorts or a skirt. Students in grades 5-7 must purchase their fabric prior to the first class. Information about fabric choices will be sent to participants after registration.

Woodworking
Students will gain valuable life-long technical skills as they build useful wooden projects. Using hand tools and limited power tools, students will learn techniques such as measuring, cutting, joining, drilling, sanding and finishing. Each year we choose a practical project such as step stools, storage boxes, clocks, lamps, or tables.

Teen Craft Classes
Grades 8-10, weekly sessions
(Ceramics is 2 weeks)

Teens can learn more advanced crafting skills in our after- noon classes just for them. All supplies are included for all classes except sewing; pattern and fabric must be purchased separately.

Airbrush Painting
Ever wonder just how artists create those custom designs on helmets, t-shirts and motorcycles? Then take this class to learn airbrushing basics such as stenciling, shading, blending and layering colors, and taking care of airbrush equipment. Airbrushing is an ideal medium for many surfaces, including paper, fabric, and silk.

Black and White Photography
Learn how to use a camera, develop negatives, and make your own black and white prints. The instructor will cover the concepts of composition, and the techniques for printing and dry mounting. A 35mm (SLR or “point and shoot”) camera is required.  Cameras are available if students can’t provide one.

Silk painting
Students will learn the vibrant, simple process of silk painting. Learn to apply resist and permanent dyes, as well as a variety of decorative techniques such as using salt to create starburst patterns.

Ceramic Wheelthrowing
Enjoy the satisfaction of throwing clay on the wheel. The instructor will concentrate on getting you comfortable using a kick wheel, as well as giving you a solid foundation in making a few basic forms such as cylinders, cups and bowls. Basic glazing will also be covered and you can expect to produce some finished pieces.

Glass Fusing
Magically transform flat sheets of glass into beautiful plates, bowls, jewelry and picture frames. Glass fusing, considered a warm glass process, has endless possibilities. Students will learn cutting, grinding and placement of glass to create their individual projects.

Glass Sandblasting
Create beautifully decorated glass using our pressurized sandblasting unit.  Learn how to use sandblast resist to create ornate and intricate designs that are easily carved into most types of glass.

Stained glass
Learn to make your own stained glass suncatchers in this exciting class. Students will learn how to cut and grind glass, put pieces together with copper foil, then solder the project. Patterns will be provided, but if students have a design in mind, they can bring a pattern (subject to instructor approval).

Screenprinting
Have you ever wanted to learn to print your own t-shirts, posters or cards? You’ll learn one color printing as well as the basics of multi-color printing. Expect to print one single- color design during the class. Information on what to bring to the first class will be sent after registration. All printing supplies, including two
t-shirts, are included in the class price. Additional t-shirts may be purchased for $4 each.

Sewing
Enjoy the satisfaction of creating your own unique articles of clothing by completing a simple pair of shorts or a skirt. Pattern will be chosen by the instructor, and information about pattern and fabric choices will be sent to participants after registration. Students who have previous sewing experience may choose their own pattern, but are cautioned to choose a pattern that is not too difficult. Students must purchase their pattern and fabric prior to the first class.
