Fitness Philosophy

When it comes to Fitness & Wellness, I always stress wellness first and foremost. To me, wellness, a healthy, happy and balanced life, is the end-all-be-all goal that we should all strive towards, and fitness is just one piece of the puzzle that will help get you there. My training revolves around creating and shaping and healing bodies, so that they are capable of functional movement.

Background

My name is Alexys Thiemann. I began dancing, gymnastics and figure skating when I was young and continued with those practices until early high school. Once I entered my undergraduate studies at UC Davis I became a ballet barre class instructor, where I fused the movement background I had from childhood with strength training. The practice of barre produces long, lean, and toned muscle mass, as opposed to large gains, and focuses on specific postures and small repetitive movements which target different muscle fibers than traditional strength training. This eventually led me to the study of Pilates, where I learned how to use the form and function of the core to promote balance within the body, as well as stability and flexibility. I believe that one of the greatest benefits of physical activity is the ability to strengthen our bodies so that we can live fuller lives. The best thing we can do for our bodies on a daily basis is move, and I love to help guide people through those movements.
