Youth Swim Lessons

SUMMER SWIM LESSONS 2022

 

What Lessons are available?

The Aquatics Unit will be offering both Group Lessons and Private Lessons in Summer 2022.

Different to Spring, Summer swim lessons will be four times a week, for 2 weeks - Monday to Thursday (Sessions include 8 swim lessons*)

*7 during Holidays, PRORATED Sessions start on Tuesday's

 

Available Weeks and Swim Dates

Session 1: 6/21-6/30

Session 2: 7/5- 7/14

Session 3: 7/18 – 7/28

Session 4: 8/1 – 8/11

Registration for each week closes exactly one week prior. 
 

How do I register my child?

Registration for ALL SESSIONS open May 6th at Noon on the Rec Portal.
 

Swim Lesson Cost

Group Lessons are $105/120

Private Lessons are $150/170

Swim Lesson Times

Swim Lessons run for 30 minutes per lesson, and times vary depending on Swim Level. 

10am-10:30am

Description of Each Swim Level

Bat Ray Classes (Ages 3-5)

Priorities for this class include Water Comfort, Submerging the Head and learn supported movements.

Skills that participants will learn: Supported front/back floats, Submerged face and head, Breath Control (bubbles), Underwater exploration, Introduction to deep water, Pick up submerged object and Water Safety skills.

Water Safety Focus: Identify lifeguards and holding the wall.

10:40am-11:10am

There are 6 Spots Available for each session at this time.

11:20am-11:50am

There are 6 Spots Available for each session at this time.

6:10pm-6:40pm

There are 3 Spots Available for each session at this time.

Cod Classes (Ages 4-6)

Priorities for this class include Independent floats/ turning over, Independent streamline, Independent kicking and moving towards incorporation of arm strokes.

Skills that participants will learn: Independent front float, Independent back float, supported back glide, supported front glide, Rhythmic flutter kick, Rhythmic breathing (bobbing), Introduction to elementary backstroke, Introduction to front crawl, Water safety skills.

Water Safety Focus: Lifejackets and their uses, think so you don’t sink!

 *Children must turn 4 before first lesson*

11:20am-11:50am

6:10pm-6:40pm

You can sign up for Cod classes on 5/6, here. 

Dory Classes (Ages 5-7)

Priorities for this class include side breathing, coordination of arms and legs in freestyle and backstroke, correcting body position and introduction to dives.

Skills that participants will learn: Independent front glide, Independent back glide, jumping into deep water, Elementary backstroke 10 yards, Front crawl 10 yards, Back crawl 10 yards, Turning over (floats), Rotary breathing, Water safety skills.

Water Safety Focus: Review previous skills and introduce treading water, look before you leap!

*Children must turn 5 before first lesson*

 

10:40am-11:10am

There are 3 Spots Available for each session at this time.

11:20am-11:50am

There are 3 Spots Available for each session at this time.

6:10pm-6:40pm

There are 3 Spots Available for each session at this time.

6:50pm-7:20pm

You can sign up for Dory classes on 5/6, here. 

Eelpout (Ages 6-9)

Priorities for this class include building endurance (freestyle and backstroke), stroke refinement, breaststroke fundamentals and treading water.

Skills that participants will learn: Front crawl 15 yards, Back crawl 15 yards, Elementary backstroke 15 yards, Intro to breaststroke kick, Intro to breaststroke pull, Intro to diving in deep water, Water safety skills.

Water Safety Focus: Review previous skills and reaching assists; reach or throw, don’t go!

*Children must turn 6 before first lesson*

 

6:50pm-7:20pm

There are 3 Spots Available for each session at this time.

Flying Fish (Ages 8+)

9+ Priorities for this class include continued endurance building, introduction of flip-turns and dives, stroke refinement on freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, fundamentals of butterfly, treading water for longer periods and 25-yard swims.

*Children must turn 8 before first lesson*

 

6:50pm-7:20pm

There are 3 Spots Available for each session at this time.

Private Lessons

Ages: 3-9+ Private classes offer 1:1 instruction between your child and one instructor. Private lessons follow the same development as group lessons unless there is something specific you are looking to improve upon. Aquatics can cater the private lessons to your needs.
