Intro to Backpacking - Desolation Wilderness

2.5 / 5 - For length of the trip, elevation of trip location, and daily mileage (7 miles).

Classroom Session: Sept. 29, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Weekend Session: Oct. 2-3

Backpacking

This course will teach participants the basics of backpacking in a 2 hour classroom session before they head out into the wild for an amazing weekend adventure. Outdoor Adventures guides will go over backpacking equipment, what to pack and how to pack it, meal planning, and leave no trace techniques. 

The weekend adventure will travel to Lake Aloha, a well-known destination in the Sierras. The hike to Lake Aloha showcases the best of Desolation Wilderness. This route has it all; sweeping mountain views, alpine lakes, grassy meadows, all without too much of a challenge. To top it all off, there’s no better way to cool down than swimming in the beautiful lakes along the way.

Backpacking

This is a weekend adventure that will travel to Lake Aloha, a well-known destination in the Sierras. The hike to Lake Aloha showcases the best of Desolation Wilderness. This route has it all; sweeping mountain views, alpine lakes, grassy meadows, all without too much of a challenge. To top it all off, there’s no better way to cool down than swimming in the beautiful lakes along the way. Unlike our "Intro to Backpacking" class, this trip is for participants who have done some backpacking, and therefore need less instruction.

This trip will be run in the CO-OP style meaning transportation and food are not provided. Guides will discuss meal options and set up carpool during the pre-trip meeting.

Dates:

Classroom Session: Oct. 13, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Weekend Session: Oct. 16-17

The Cache Creek Wilderness is located just east of Clear Lake, CA. This area has beautiful grassy rolling hills and bountiful wildlife. The terrain in this area is relatively flat which makes for great entry-level hiking.
