ARC Policies

Please read and follow all outlined guidelines listed below—refusal to do so may result in the suspension from Campus Recreation facilities and programming.

Members that deliberately or routinely break policy will be required to provide their information (name and ID number or ID card) to Campus Recreation staff. Policy violations will be reviewed by Campus Recreation administration. Appropriate disciplinary actions, including a verbal warning, removal from ARC, restricted use of facilities or and loss of membership privileges is at the discretion of the administration.

ARC General Guidelines

  • Members must abide by the UC Davis Code of Conduct and Principles of Community.
  • Members must be 18 years of age or older or an enrolled UC Davis student.
  • A valid Campus Recreation membership is required to enter the facility.
    • Members must swipe their Aggie card or scan in utilizing the UC Davis Campus Recreation app.
      • App use is encouraged, Campus Recreation membership cards will only be provided on a case by case basis according to member needs.
    • Failure to check in via app barcode or membership card will result in a strike, after three strikes members will be subject to a 3-day facility suspension.
  • Please refrain from using cell phones while utilizing equipment or attending a class.
  • Create community by allowing people to “work in” (share equipment) while you are resting or in between sets.
  • Clean equipment before and after use with provided disinfectant wipes.
  • All equipment should be returned to its designated area after use.
  • During peak workout times, please adhere to a 30-minute limit on all equipment.
  • Exercise in appropriate locations that do not block hallways, stairwells or emergency exits.
  • Equipment rented from the ARC equipment rental must stay inside the facility.
    • Items not returned or returned in damaged condition to the ARC equipment rental prior to closing are subject to a $10 fee
    • Access to the facility may be suspended until payment is received.
    • Equipment rental will close 15 minutes prior to facility closing
  • Day-use lockers are available for the current operation day hours.
    • Items left inside a day-use locker will be removed and subject to a $10 return fee.
    • Items left behind in day-use or expired overnight lockers will be stored for a maximum of 30 days.
  • Personal lockers (including a facility lock) are available to be purchased 
    • Lockers must be purchased in person at the ARC
    • Lockers purchased must utilize the facility lock that it comes with, not personal locks
      • Lost or misplaced facility locks will result in a $10 lock replacement fee 
  • Campus Recreation is not liable for items left behind in the facility.
    • General lost and found items are discarded or donated at the end of each month
      • Valuables are taken to the police department every Thursday upon opening
      • Water bottles are discarded every Thursday upon opening
  • Please notify a staff member if any equipment is not operating properly.
  • Use equipment for its intended use. If you are unsure how to use a piece of equipment for its intended purpose, please ask a staff member for assistance.
  • ARC facility space is not available for reservation to outside groups, only Campus Recreation affiliated groups/programs may use formal recreation space
  • Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to implement any rules or guidelines that protect the health, safety and well-being of the facility and its members.

The following is strictly prohibited:

  • Recording or posting of images either by photograph, video or digitally of individuals or groups without their consent.
  • Pets (excluding service animals).
  • Bicycles, skateboards, shopping carts, scooters, etc.
  • Violent or threatening conduct, and conduct that is discriminatory or creates a hostile environment for other users in violation of University policies.
  • Personal belongings, backpacks and or bags unsecured in activity areas (must be kept in lockers).
    • Unattended bags, backpacks, etc. inside the ARC will be removed and brought to ARC equipment rental. Repeat offenders may be subject to suspension.
    • Campus Recreation is not liable for items left behind in the facility.
  • Weapons.
  • Alcohol, illicit drugs, drug paraphernalia and tobacco products—including e-cigarettes.
  • Any item(s) that violate fire code.
  • Food and gum—drinks must be in a closed container.
  • Posting materials inside or on the exterior of the facility without prior approval from Campus Recreation career staff.
  • Providing private instruction—all personal trainers and instructors must Campus Recreation approved.
  • Anything deemed inappropriate by staff will be prohibited.

UCDHS Fitness Center Guidelines

  • No shoes on mats.
  • No bags allowed in the fitness center.
  • 30-minute limit on cardio equipment when people are waiting.
  • Clean equipment before and after use with provided disinfectant wipes.
  • If any equipment is not operating properly, please notify a staff member.
  • The use of chalk is not permitted.
  • Please re-rack weights.
  • Do not drop plates or dumbbells.
  • Share equipment when possible, by allowing others to work out in between sets.
  • No private instruction (at the discretion of ARC management).
  • Do not remove barbells from designated benches or power racks.
  • Do not move yellow weight benches from the rack area.

Appropriate Attire

  • Shoes
    • Athletic, closed-toed, closed-heel, non-marking shoes are required.
    • High heels, cleats, spikes, boots, and sandals are not permitted.
    • No shoes are to be worn on the mats in the Martial Arts Studio.
  • Shirts
    • Athletic tops are required.
    • Any material deemed to damage equipment is not permitted.
  • Pants/Shorts
    • Athletic pants and shorts of reasonable length are required.
    • Non-athletic type pants such as jeans, pants/shorts with rivets or zippers are not permitted. Any material deemed to damage equipment is not permitted.

Studio Policies

General Studio Policies

  • No black-soled shoes or shoes that leave marks on the floor
  • Footwear should be clean of dirt and mud
  • No food or gum
    • Water bottles must have a secure lid on them at all times and be kept at the perimeter of the room for safety purposes
  • Treat exercise equipment with respect and clean after use
  • Sound equipment can only be utilized by Campus Recreation staff
  • Admittance for GX classes is on a first-come-first-served basis
  • No private instruction, all instructors must be Campus Recreation approved
  • Lights must remain on in the studios at all times while open for informal use
  • Formal programming must be approved by Campus Recreation staff
    • Staff reserves the right to disband groups who are monopolizing studio space during informal times

Studio B - Group Exercise

  • Reserved for Campus Recreation programming, not available for informal use
  • Equipment should not be removed from studio
  • Use of cell phones and other personal devices is considered distracting
    • If you must respond to a call please step outside of the studio

Studio C - Dance

  • Available for informal use when not reserved for formal programming
    • Members should not interrupt or enter classes in session
    • Last minute reservations may occur, priority will be given to meet formal programming needs
  • Informal users must utilize headphones when listening to audio
  • Equipment may be utilized in the space and should be returned and cleaned after use
    • Any use of equipment that may cause damage to the floor will not be permitted

Studio D - Martial Arts

  • Available for informal use when not reserved for formal programming
    • Members should not interrupt or enter classes in session
    • Last minute reservations may occur, priority will be given to meet formal programming needs
  • Grappling, wrestling, and other non-striking combat practice is allowed
  • Striking or sparring is only allowed with proper personal protective equipment or combat gear
  • Staff has the right to end any activity that they deem unsafe
  • No shoes of any kind are allowed to be worn on the mats
  • Informal users must utilize headphones when listening to audio
  • Non-weight equipment such as foam rollers and resistance bands may be used in this space
    • Weighted equipment can cause damage to the mats and is not permitted
