Boarding Spaces and Waiting List At The Equestrian Center

The Equestrian Center has open boarding spaces available and is taking waitlist requests from current UC Davis undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. Take advantage of our convenient on-campus location and ride on any or all of the equestrian club teams that call the Equestrian Center home. Our facility is a short bike ride from Tercero dorms and right across the street from the UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital. We have campus wifi on-site and offer a welcoming space for all students to study, have fun and relax. Our staff is comprised of 2 program coordinators, 2 animal technicians, 4 on-site student residents and over 20 student staff members which includes instructors, barn supervisors and facility attendants. We pride ourselves in being a student facility.

Meet Caitlin McGetrick and learn more about boarding your horse at the UC Davis Equestrian Center. At the time this video was shot, she was a first-year veterinary student at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and a recent UC Davis graduate.

We have many riding spaces, including a galloping track, a large covered arena, dressage court, western arena, several turnouts, a round pen and additional outdoor space that doubles as a riding arena and larger turnout space.  Stall board includes daily cleaning and twice-daily feedings of orchard grass hay and/or alfalfa hay and two bags a week of megazorb pellets to absorb urine and reduce odor. Pasture board includes twice-daily feedings of orchard grass hay and alfalfa hay and regular cleaning. Our goal is to provide a fun and welcoming environment for all participants. Enjoy the unique opportunity of bringing your horse to college and be a part of our growing student community!

Incoming Horses Biosecurity Policy

All incoming horses, including new horses and returning horses who were gone over the summer, are required to meet these biosecurity entry and vaccination requirements before arriving to the Equestrian Center.

Entry Requirements

Horses must have not been exposed or diagnosed with a zoonotic disease or transmissive virus in the last 30 days. Horses exhibiting clinical signs of a transmissive virus such as (but not limited to), fever of 101.5°F or greater, nasal discharge, or coughing with mucus, will not be allowed to enter the facility without being cleared by a vet (once horse is asymptomatic). If horses display these symptoms upon arrival, horses will be required to be checked by a vet and quarantined at the owner’s expense.

Vaccination Requirements

Boarders, with new horses or returning horses who were gone over the summer, are required to email their vaccination records to the Main Office (equestriancenter@campusrec.ucdavis.edu) prior to their horse’s arrival. Records must show that the vaccine was administer within 6-12 months of the expected arrival date. We require proof of records for the following:

  • Tetanus (within 12 months)
  • Flu/rhino (EHV1 and EHV4) (within 6 months)
  • WNV West Nile Vaccine (within 12 months)
  • EEE/WEE (Eastern and Western) encephalomyelitis (within 12 months)
  • Rabies (within 12 months)
  • Negative Coggin’s Test (if coming from out of state) (within 12 months)

Biosecurity at Shows and Off-Site Travel

  • CDFA strongly recommends that horse owners practice proper biosecurity when visiting other horse facilities or events:
  • Limit horse-to-horse contact
  • Limit horse-to-human-to-horse contact
  • Avoid use of communal water sources
  • Avoid sharing of equipment unless thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses
  • Monitor your horse for clinical signs of disease and report any temperature over 102°F to a veterinarian

If you believe your horse was exposed to a possible contagious disease while at a show or off-site, please contact the Equestrian Center Main Office or a Supervisor right away. The horse will need to be quarantined per vet recommendation to maintain the health and safety of the horses at the EQC.
