UCDMB Practice

Preseason Retreat

Each year in early to mid September, the band reconvenes for a week of fun and rehearsals to prepare for the upcoming season. When you attend the preseason retreat held on campus at UC Davis, you'll learn or improve our high-step marching technique, start learning the music and drill for the pregame and halftime shows, participate in leadership and team building activities, and meet the friends you'll keep for the rest of your life--all before orientation!

This year's preseason retreat will run September 7th through 11th with check-in from 7:30-9:30AM on Tuesday, September 7th at the Band Room (North end of the UC Davis Activities and Recreation Center, 760 Orchard Rd. Davis, CA 95616), and check-out from 10:00AM-12:00PM on Saturday, September 11th.

Full Schedule available here:

Religious Holiday Conflicts

Those students who wish to observe The Jewish Holidays during the week of September 7-11  will be excused to miss Preseason Retreat. For more information, please contact Dr. Garrett Rigsby garigbsy@ucdavis.edu or (530) 752-9239.

Retreat Registration

Registration for our preseason retreat is now closed, however you may still join the band and participate in some of the later season football games, basketball season, or Winter or Spring Quarter events like Picnic Day or the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade! Please visit our Join the Band page for more information on registering for membership.

What to Expect

For the safety and well-being of the entire university community, the policy requires, with few exceptions, that all students, faculty and staff be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus before they will be allowed on campus or in a facility or office. This means that you will need to be fully vaccinated (received your final dose by 2 weeks prior) before the beginning of retreat. We will not ask your vaccination status, but you will need to receive an "APPROVED" response on the Daily Symptom Survey which indicates that you have either been vaccinated or received an approved exemption.

More information can be found here including instructions on how to verify your vaccination information through the University's Health e-Messaging portal, apply for an exemption, and much more. Please keep in mind however, that for band retreat the vaccination deadline is September 7th rather than September 8th.

Finally, as of July 28th, face coverings are required indoors regardless of vaccination status. Please bring face coverings for the week, and plan on wearing them anytime we are indoors. Right now, all playing of instruments is planned for outdoors, but instrument-specific personal protective equipment will be issued if it becomes necessary at any point. Returning members who were issued PPE last spring, please bring yours in case it becomes necessary.
