Outdoor Adventures offers a variety of outdoor adventure activities to students, faculty/staff, and community members throughout the entire year. Our vast programming offers amazing experiences that anyone can enjoy. For water lovers, we have whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, standup paddleboarding, fly fishing and whitewater kayaking. For land lovers - backpacking, camping, hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. This page is generally updated for with the next quarter's offerings about a month out. Hiking: Point Reyes

Description: Join Outdoor Adventures on an amazing day of hiking around some of California's most beautiful and pristine locations. Our day hikes are for everyone and tend to be rated easy.

Difficulty Rating: 1.5/5 due to the physical nature of the activity.

Timing: We will leave the Outdoor Adventures Lodge early, generally between 7am and 8am. Most trips will return by 6pm, however, we can not guarantee exactly when we will be back in Davis.

Pre-Trip: We do not have pre-trip meetings for day hikes. A few days before your trip, your guides will be in touch with you regarding meeting time, location, and any weather concerns. All trips meet at the Outdoor Adventures Lodge located next to the Rec Pool, 1025 Extension Center Drive.

Participants should bring:

Introduction to Rock Climbing

Description: Are you curious about Rock Climbing but you just don't know where to start? Do you climb indoor but want to take your skills outside? Are you interested in spending a day with other people who have the same curiosity or passion? If you've answered yes, then this trip is for you.

Introduction to Top Rope

Description: During this 1 day rock climbing course, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to set their own climbing anchors, and other techniques/skills necessary to go climbing on their own. This course takes place at Cosumnes River Gorge and is a great progressive step after our Introduction to Rock Climbing course.

We will spend the day at Cosumnes River Gorge climbing routes rated easy to intermediate depending on the group experience level.

Description: This course will teach participants the basics of backpacking in a 2 hour classroom session before they head out into the wild for an amazing weekend adventure. Outdoor Adventures guides will go over backpacking equipment, what to pack and how to pack it, meal planning, and leave no trace techniques. 

Difficulty Rating: 2.5/5 due to the physical nature of the activity and learning new skill sets.

Timing: We will leave the Outdoor Adventures Lodge very early Saturday morning. Most trips will return by 6pm, however, we can not guarantee exactly when we will be back in Davis.

Pre-Trip: All of our winter trips have a pre-trip meeting the week before the trip. Generally these meetings happen on Wednesday or Thursday nights around 6:30pm. Pre-trip time and date is indicated in the offering description below. These meetings take place in-person at the Outdoor Adventures Lodge located next to the Rec Pool, 1025 Extension Center Drive.

Whitewater Rafting

REGISTER

Description: You'll spend an exciting day paddling a guided raft down the thrilling whitewater of the nearby South Fork of the American River, California's most popular whitewater run. This run is great for beginners and expert rafters alike. Many groups take advantage of these trips to share an adventure with friends. Outdoor Adventures will provide guides, and equipment.

Participants will be responsible for bringing their own lunch and snacks as well as providing their own transportation to the put-in location. Registration closes the Wednesday before the trip.

Difficulty Rating: 2.5/5 due to the physical nature of the activity

Timing: Trips generally last all day. Most trips will return by 6pm, however, we can not guarantee exactly when we will be back in Davis.

Participants should bring: a lunch/snacks, plenty of water, and be prepared to get wet. Prepare yourself by checking out our information sheet before the trip.

Paddling

Stand Up Paddle Boarding Clinics

Description: Stand-up Paddleboarding (SUP) is an outdoor water sports activity in which a rider stands up on a large board and uses a paddle to move through the water. Participants in our1 hour Intro to SUP class will learn about SUP equipment, paddling technique, self rescue and safety. After completing Introduction to Stand-up Paddleboarding participants will have all the skills necessary to explore their favorite lake, ocean or stream on their own.

Difficulty Rating: 1.5/5 -requires some ability to balance.

Timing: This is a one hour course which takes place at the Rec Pool. Most classes end on or just before 8pm.


Provided: Outdoor Adventures provides equipment and instruction.

Participants should bring: clothes that you can get wet in, such as a bathing suit. Towel and clothes to change into.

Open Kayak Sessions

Description: Join Outdoor Adventures for our Open Kayak Sessions at the Rec Pool every Wednesday night. This dedicated time at the Rec Pool is a great opportunity to

work on your kayaking skills and meet new friends. No instruction is provided. Equipment is available for free on a first come, first served basis.

Difficulty Rating: 1.5/5 -requires some ability to balance.

Timing: Come anytime after 7pm and leave anytime before 9pm.


Provided: Outdoor Adventures provides equipment on a first come, first served basis.

Participants should bring: clothes that you can get wet in, such as a bathing suit. Towel and clothes to change into.  You may bring your own kayak.

Timing: This trip will meet very early on the first day of the trip (usually around 7am). Trips try to return by 6pm, however, we can not guarantee exactly when we will be back in Davis. Note: We are offering a 3 day trip to Yosemite, this trip is best for people who do not have work/classes on Friday.

Pre-Trip: All Outdoor Adventures trips have a pre-trip meeting the week before the trip. Generally these meetings happen on Wednesday or Thursday nights around 6:30pm. Pre-trip time and date is indicated in the offering description below. These meetings take place in-person at the Outdoor Adventures Lodge located next to the Rec Pool, 1025 Extension Center Drive. While they are not mandatory we highly recommend that every participant attend as pertinent trip information will be discussed.
