Youth Summer Swim Lessons are available to the UC Davis community from June 30 through September 18. UC Davis youth swim lessons ensure a safe and fun environment that fosters water comfortability and competency for participants of all ages and abilities. 

Our lessons incorporate water safety skills and developmentally appropriate instructional techniques and games to provide exceptional lessons to youth of the Davis community.

Enrollment is open from 3/1/25 at 5 p.m. until 9/11/25 at 11:59 p.m.

Pricing and Details:
  • Group and individual youth swim lessons are available summer 2025 for youth ages 6 months-12 years old.
  • Six lesson sessions will be offered. Each lesson session is two weeks long. Lessons run Mondays–Thursdays for a total of eight lessons. 
  • AM and PM lessons are available
  • Group lessons remain at a 4:1 participant/instructor ratio
  • Individual lessons remain at a 1:1 participant/instructor ratio
  • Group lesson prices: $150/session
  • Individual lesson prices: $275/session
Session Dates:
  • Session 1 (6/30-7/10) - Registration Closes 6/25
  • Session 2 (7/14-7/24) - Registration Closes 7/9
  • Session 3 (7/28-8/7) - Registration Closes 7/23
  • Session 4 (8/11-8/21) - Registration Closes 8/6
  • Session 5 (8/25-9/4) - Registration Closes 8/20*
  • Session 6 (9/8-9/18) - Registration Closes 9/3

*operates on an adjusted schedule due to holiday

Lesson Levels

Lesson levels are organized based on both age and ability. Please read through the age and ability notes associated with each level, and enroll your participant(s) appropriately. If you have any questions regarding what lesson to enroll your participant in, please email us at swimlessons@campusrec.ucdavis.edu. We are happy to advise!

  • Tadpoles/Parent and Tot (6 months–3 years)
    • Requires parent/guardian presence and participation (1 parent/guardian permitted per class)
      • Parents/guardians must be 18 years of age
    • No prior water experience required
    • Held in the 3.5 foot shallow leisure pool (parents and guardians will be able to stand)
  • Starfish (3–5 years)
    • Able to follow along with their instructor without parent/guardian assistance prior to enrolling in class
    • At least 3 years of age prior to enrolling in class
    • Willing to enter water prior to enrolling in class
  • Seahorses (5–7 years)
    • Able to comfortably enter the water prior to enrolling in class
    • Able to comfortably submerge their head/face in water prior to enrolling in class
    • Able to demonstrate basic front crawl movements (supported kicks and arm movements) prior to enrolling in class
  • Manta Rays (7–12 years)
    • Able to comfortably submerge their head/face in water prior to enrolling in class
    • Able to demonstrate supported front crawl movements (kicks and arm movements) prior to enrolling in class
    • Able to demonstrate supported front float and back float prior to enrolling in class

Morning Lessons, Sessions 1–4:
  • 9:35 a.m.–10:05 a.m.

  • 10:10 a.m.–10:40 a.m.

  • 5 p.m.–5:30 p.m.

  • 5:35 p.m.–6:05 p.m.

  • 6:10 p.m.–6:40 p.m.

Enrollment Details:

When enrolling your participant please remember:

  • Be sure to include the PARTICIPANT'S information to reflect who will be participating in the lesson
  • One parent/guardian is required to remain at the Rec Pool during their participant's swim lesson
  • The Friday before swim lessons begin, you will be contacted by swim lessons management with additional information regarding parking, where to check-in, and where parents and guardians can observe lessons from

Please remember that lessons are subject to cancellation due to mechanical failures or unsafe weather conditions. Such cancellations will be communicated by Rec Pool Management
