SUMMER 2025 Lifeguard Certification and Hiring
Aquatics is offering FREE lifeguard certification classes for those who would like to work with us during Summer 2025!
Summer employees REQUIRED work dates are 6/16/25-9/20/25
Summer employees are required to be available to work holidays, weekends, and evenings.
Summer employees, depending on work performance and Fall 2025 hiring needs, may be offered a year-round position with the Aquatics unit.
This certification course will be held May 2nd-May 5th
May 2-5:
May 2: 4 p.m.-8 p.m.
May 3: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
May 4: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
FREE lifeguard certification classes are for enrolled UC Davis Students who are interested in working at the Rec Pool during Summer 2025. Successful students will receive their Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/AED and a conditional job offer to work as a lifeguard at the Rec Pool.*
*Please note: Students who pass the certification course but do not complete the working requirement to work until September 20th, will be charged the $300 certification cost.

Lifeguard Course Prerequisite Testing:
Swim 150 yards continuously (either freestyle or breaststroke), demonstrating breath control and deep water comfortability. Then immediately after, complete a two-minute timed water tread (no hands), and finish with another 150-yard swim*
AND
Swim 25 yards and retrieve a 10-pound diving brick from the bottom of a seven-foot pool, resurface with the brick, and swim on your back (without using arms) to your starting position. Then exit the pool without using a ladder. This event must be completed in less than 1 minute and 40 seconds.
The Process
If you're not yet certified, please follow the steps below.
Step 1. Enroll in the certification course HERE
Step 2. Attend and successfully complete the certification course
Step 3. Upon certification completion, you will be offered an interview at the end of the certification course with an Aquatics staff member
Step 4. If successful in the interview, you will be offered a position with the Aquatics Unit.
Step 5. Successful candidates are required to work 20 hours per week from 6/16/25-9/20/25. THOSE WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO FULFILL THESE MINIMUM EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS (in good standing) WILL BE CHARGED the $300 CERTIFICATION FEE.
