Aggie Dominates National Championship in Skier Cross
Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Club Athlete, Justin Wallasch, placed 1st in National Championship in Skier Cross
From March 7-12, while most Aggies were in Davis studying for finals, three members of the Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Club at UC Davis were in Lake Placid New York, competing in the 2022 United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships. In between studying for finals slopeside, Justin Wallasch, Nathan Kushner, and Trent Alder represented UC Davis among over 100 other competitors in Giant Slalom and Skier Cross. Justin was named national champion in Skier Cross after he took first place out of 75 competitors!
The UC Davis Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Club is a student-run sport club and practices at Palisades Tahoe. When not shushing down the slopes, all three student-athletes are highly motivated in their academic pursuits. Justin is a 4th-year student, majoring in Business/Managerial Economics. Nathan is a third-year Global Disease Biology major and has held several research positions in labs on campus. Finally, Trent is a third-year political science major.
USCSA is the sports federation for collegiate team ski racing and snowboarding in America. The USCSA holds the U.S. Collegiate Ski & Snowboard National Championships in March of each year. Teams typically qualify from the six regions at their Regional Championships and move on to compete at the National Championships. Hundreds of athletes compete in the event, which alternates between eastern and western resorts each year.
