Introduction to Knitting Class

Want something cozy, relaxing, inexpensive, and fun to do in quarantine? Come and learn how to knit! In this class, you will learn the absolute basics of knitting, including all of the necessary stitches, techniques, and skills you need to make your own projects. Over the course of this eight week class, you will make 2 projects of your own choice, learn about a variety of resources for patterns and inspiration, and connect with other lovely and creative people. No experience necessary. (Eight classes.)

Dates: Wednesdays 5:00 to 6:00pm from April 7th to May 26th

Spring Quarter at the Craft Center

All our studios are currently open to students, faculty, and staff with a preexisting orientation. Reservations are $14/day or $70/quarter and can be booked online.

Our hours are: 

                   Monday - Friday: 9:30 a.m.– 5:30 p.m.

                   Saturday - Sunday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Handbuilding Techniques Class

This class covers the foundational techniques of handbuilding, including pinch pots, coils, and slabs in addition to the firing process and glazing. It is ideal for beginners or anyone who is missing getting their hands on clay in this unprecedented time. The class will be held synchronously but remolety over Zoom during its scheduled times.

Pots that Pour Class

March 23, 2021

This Intermediate Handbuilding class will cover many methods of making pots that pour. We will start with a pinch pot and work our way through more complicated methods including coiling and building with slabs. There will be a focus on spouts, lids and handles, proportion, and functionality. This could include a coffee pot and pour over, pitcher, teapot, or a lidded mug. We will also cover texture, underglaze, and final glazing. We look forward to seeing you on our screen soon!

Glass Pendants Class

In this class students will learn how to use borosilicate or hard glass to make glass pendants. Students will be socially distanced in these in person classes and will follow all UC Davis COVID best practices.

Flameworking 101 Class

March 23, 2021

Learn the basics of working with borosilicate or hard glass in this four-class tutorial. You will practice multiple decorative and coloring techniques as you complete several glass objects. Projects include pendants, marbles, and similar solid glass objects. No prior experience is necessary. Starting supplies are included in the class fee, and additional materials are available for purchase at the Craft Center. (Four classes; includes flameworking class pass.)  Students will be socially distanced in these in person classes and will follow all UC Davis COVID best practices. 

Fantasy Felting class

Ever been curious about the wild and wooly world of needle felting? Needle felting is the process of working wool with a special needle that catches the fibers and tangles them, allowing us to mold a shape from wool. Class Dates are February 24th, March 10th, and March 17th, all at 6 p.m. on Zoom. Tools and materials will be provided!

Wire Wrapping
