Campus Recreation is excited to share the great news that Dr. Shannan Rowe, our head athletic trainer, has been awarded the title of Head Athletic Trainer of the Year for Club/Intramural/Recreational Sports by the NATA Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine. This national award recognizes Shannan’s outstanding contributions and commitment to the health and well-being of our sport club athletes here at UC Davis.

For the past 5 ½ years, Shannan has played a crucial role in our department, consistently showing her expertise and dedication to the safety of our athletes. Her contributions have been truly valuable, particularly in the writing and implementation of a concussion protocol for our sport clubs unit. This protocol has set the standard in ensuring the safety and proper care of our athletes in the event of a head injury.

Most recently, Shannan has led a new initiative to implement physicals for all club athletes. By prioritizing proactive healthcare processes, she is looking to ensure athletes’ physical condition and reduce risks associated with their respective sports club activities. This commitment to enhancing the overall health and performance of our athletes is truly appreciated.

Shannan’s enthusiasm for her field extends beyond our campus. She actively engages with her professional association, advocating for the importance of Athletic Training to state decision-makers. Her efforts in promoting Athletic Training as an essential element of competitive sports have not gone unnoticed, and we are proud to have her as a representative of our department and her field.
