Student Development Day
Preparing Future Professionals
On April 26, the Campus Recreation Student Development Committee—comprised of six dedicated professional staff members—hosted a dynamic Student Development Day aimed at preparing student employees for life beyond their campus roles. In collaboration with representatives from the University Credit Union Center and the UC Davis Internship and Career Center, the committee designed a half-day program focused on essential career readiness topics, including interview techniques, résumé building, and foundational financial literacy.
The committee is deeply committed to helping students recognize that their experience with Campus Recreation offers more than just a paycheck. By guiding students through ways to articulate the transferable skills gained from their on-campus roles and how to effectively present those experiences in professional settings, the event empowered students to approach their future careers or continuing education with confidence and clarity.
With a student-to-professional staff ratio of 780:35, students are truly at the heart of Campus Recreation operations. As such, the department prioritizes holistic student development, offering opportunities that go beyond the scope of daily responsibilities. Students who attended the event shared that they now feel more prepared to communicate the value of their student employment experiences during interviews and in professional contexts.
Looking ahead, the committee is eager to expand its outreach and impact in the coming academic year. They extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Student Development Day and invite the campus community to stay tuned for future initiatives that highlight how Campus Recreation continues to support student growth—both in and beyond the workplace.
