Fitness Philosophy

It’s funny because my fitness philosophy actually stems from a quote by Matthew McConaughey.

“Happiness is an emotional response to an outcome. If I win I will be happy, if I don’t I wont. It’s an “if-then”, cause and effect, quid pro quo standard that we cannot sustain because we immediately raise it every time we attain it. See, happiness demands a certain outcome. It is result reliant. And I say if happiness is what you’re after, you’re gonna be let down frequently and you’re gonna be unhappy much of your time. Joy, though. Joy’s something else. Joy is not a choice. It’s not a response to some result. It’s a constant. Joy is the feeling that we have from doing what we are fashioned to do, no matter the outcome. -MM

Fitness should be viewed in the same way. Don’t fixate on the end result. Enjoy the process, make it something you look forward to! And if you do this, I think you’ll find yourself achieving more personal fitness goals than ever before… because it is the process of reaching those goals that brings you the satisfaction.

Background

Grew up in the bay area, and was involved in organized sports from a young age. Eventually upon entering highschool I fell in love with Cross Country and Track, and was able to earn a spot on the D1 team here at UC Davis. After various injuries that inevitably led to departure from collegiate running, I turned to triathlon for a new beginning in my competitive journey. Fast forward to the present, and I am now a proud representative of Team USA’s Age Group team, and am training in preparation for my professional triathlon debut once I finish my undergraduate degree!

Personal Interests

I love anything that involves the outdoors: Swimming, Biking, Running, Hiking, Frisbee, Basketball I also love playing music, and have been playing piano for 19 years. I also play guitar and have started learning the violin.
